Chopta Tungnath Trek
Chopta is a very famous place in Uttarakhand for trekking and adventure. Chopta is a base for Tungnath Yatra, which is the third temple of Panch Kedar, located 3.5km from Chopta. Chopta is an amazing place to relax, people often visit this place to relax from the city life, away from all pollution and noise. Trekking in Chopta will give you immense peace. Chopta is surrounded by pine forest, deodar, and rhododendron. Another name of CHopt is “Small Switzerland”. Chopta is famous for trekking in Chandrashilla, Tunganath, and Devariyatal. An amazing view of Trishul, Nanda Devi, and Chaukhambha covered with snow can be seen from here.
Places To Visit In Chopta
- Tungnath: Tungnath is the highest temple of Lord Shiva in the whole world located at the height of 3680 m from the sea level. This Temple is more than 1000 years old and is the third Temple of the Panch Kedar.
History of Tungnath: It is said that Pandavas while searching for Lord Shiva, to ask sorry to God because they killed many in the Kurukshetra war. Lord Shiva was angree regarding all the deaths and he didn’t want to meet the. Lord Shiva changed himself to a bull and his body parts fell on different places, hump appeared at Kedarnath, bahu at Tungnath, head at Rudranath, stomach, and navels at Madhyamaheshwar, and jata at Kalpeshwar, this is how the panch Kedar was formed. Tung means arms and nath means pleasing, this is how the name Tungnath was given to this place. Pandavas build these Temples to please Lord Shiva to forgive them for all their sins.
Temple opens in the month of May and closes around November.
Trekking to Tungnath starts from Chopta and you can reach Tungnath in around 4 hrs.
Tungnath trek is considered as one of the very easiest treks for the beginners, From Tungnath you can head to Chandrashila Trek, which is at an altitude of 4130 m. Trek to Chopta will give you an amazing and thrilling experience in your life.
2. Chandrashila Trek: Located at a height of 4130 meters. It is around 1.5 km from Tungnath. From the top, you can view an amazing magical view of the Himalayas. There is also a Temple here where Lord Ram and Lakshman meditated.
3.Dugalbitta: Dugalbitta is around 7km from Chopta famous for camping. trekkers often have a camp stay here at this place. Dugalbitta is covered with snow during the winter, making your camping more exciting.
4.Ukhimath: During the winters Lord Kedarnath is carried here. It is a spiritual place with many Temples.
5. Deori Tal: Deori Tal is a lake 2km away from Sari Village. The lake is surrounded by Pine trees and it is one of the most famous places in Chopta. People visit the lake and spend their time living between nature and exploring the beauty of this amazing place.
